The Children’s Global Health Fund has a mission to improve family health in developing countries and save the lives of vulnerable children and families worldwide. We aim to achieve this by raising funds and providing support to organizations that are working towards this cause. One such organization is Clínica de Familia La Romana, which is a non-profit in the Dominican Republic. The clinic provides healthcare, education, and psycho-social support to vulnerable populations, serving more than 40,000 clients annually. Clínica de Familia La Romana is a national model for HIV and adolescent healthcare and emphasizes long-term sustainability to maintain critical services.

For 25 years, Clínica de Familia La Romana has been committed to providing high quality and affordable health services to the community of La Romana and much of the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. Over the past two decades, the clinic has steadily expanded its service offerings beyond HIV, now providing care to many vulnerable populations and the general public. The clinic sees more than 40,000 clients each year for a variety of clinical, diagnostic, and educational services, ranging from diabetes care and cardiology to family planning and comprehensive sex education with youth. The impact of these services has been substantial, reducing rates of HIV transmission to babies to nearly zero, diagnosing and initiating approximately 200 new clients with HIV on antiretrovirals each year, achieving viral suppression in more than 92% of Clínica de Familia´s 2,600 clients with HIV, and reducing morbidity from chronic diseases for thousands of clients.

To guarantee the continuity of this program, Clínica de Familia has taken several steps over the last decade to become a financially sustainable organization. This includes diversifying our funding sources, which now include grants, donations, government funding (from the US and DR governments), and most importantly, steadily increasing revenue from services. A cornerstone of Clínica de Familia’s sustainability plan over the next ten years is the construction of a new building to expand its service capacity and offerings. Clínica de Familia has acquired land to construct a new outpatient health center. The 77,328 square-foot piece of land is located in the fastest-growing part of La Romana. This land acquisition was possible thanks to generous donations from the Children’s Global Health Fund. The new building will enable service expansion to insured or self-pay clients who can subsidize the care of others in need, like clients with HIV and those from vulnerable populations, who account for more than half of Clínica de Familia’s overall budget. This will put Clínica de Familia on the path to becoming a self-sustaining organization and ultimately reduce its reliance on grants and donations.

We cannot achieve this alone. We need the support of committed individuals like you to make this dream a reality. Your contribution to our capital campaign for the construction of the new clinic will make a significant difference in the lives of countless families. Together, we can build a healthier and more promising future for our community.

Join us on this exciting journey towards a brighter tomorrow for La Romana. Your generosity can make a difference.
